Banaras: Science vs Philosophy

In the movie "Banaras" they show an interplay / parallelism of Vedic teachings being taught to Soham by Babaji & Theoretical physics to Shewatambri by her teacher. ( if you see carefully on the black board in the physics class they have put the formula of very famous schrodinger's equation, the "cat" experiment.

To give the best interpretation to the whole interplay I am quoting directly from the introduction text from " Where there is Light" by Paramhansa Yogananda.

In the movie " Banaras" , You will realise all this comes together in visual perception to Soham at Sarnath, when he is walking with Shewtambri at Sarnath, and she Asks him " Why did thousand years ago a rich prince leave his Kingdom (referring to Buddha)
Sohams says " maybe in the search of the truth" and then they show the enlightenment scenes of Soham where scenes shows us the visual representation of this interconnectedness (above mentioned)- if you recall it starts with the peacock the flow of our evolution process , from human to animals (aves) to mountains, seas, opening of flowers (unlayering of pschye, sky, sarnath stoop, then coming back to nerve cells, then to mothers womb...... the seeing of 'self" in all)

Later Soham's dialogue to Shewtambri in the night scene where she asks Soham what happened to you, I got scared when you fainted. He then says " Mujhse asisa laga ke sare shirsty main sirf "main" hoon. ( I saw me in the whole universe) aur yeh har manushay ki niyati hain. (this is the final realisation of all humans)

And that’s the "Simplest truth” that Soham, Buddhha, all saints had direct perception and hence love, because how can you not but love something which is all "you"

(In our age we are more aware of this interconnectedness, what do you guys is "internet" ? isn’t it talking to someone thousand miles apart! not having met them, what is GPR's , what is mobile phone? what is nano technology? science seems to discover space in electron with unlimited storage capacity? so you see slowly we are seeing this interconnectdessness, infact i have read that most NASA scientist are followers of kriya Yoga, that’s another form of scientific realization of god)

There are million more examples/miracles all around you.. infact everything around you is "alive" just "look" and "wake -up"

(Thats whats Shweta understood herself too and thats what she tells Dr Bhattarcharya and what Bababji's disciple tells Dr Bhattarachary that let go our your mind and "see" the truth" aptly with the background of prayer Tumso Ma Jyotir Gamaya, Mriytury Ma Amritam Gamaya " Dear Lord take me from darkness to light, take me from Death to Everliving. interwined with Mrituanjay Jap (done to overcome fear of "Death")

That’s why Banaras movie has got so many hidden layers and then finally....... simply says that
“Truth is Simple" and the whole movie worked at so many layers to remove one by one the "conditionings" "blocks" that we have. It took into account all philosophies... it talked about interconnected, it talked about seed , it talk about human relation ship, it talked about relationship between two diverse people, about parents (their own conditionings) , it talked about "letting go" to stop living in misery when one has to let go may it be parents, lovers, children, things... it says "nothing "really goes" because they are all there, but because of your current human limitation you cannot see them in front of you and by your definition "Alive"

It tell us that we love anyway, we put our father/ mother on pedestal and no matter that love doesn’t decrease because they have defaulted.. .... that a sinner like " Gayatri" is "forgiven" because her intention was her child to be happy, she didn’t think who was doing any wrong. Same is applicable for all conditioned humans. Thats why everywhere everybody is asked to be become aware their conditionings, because if not they will in the long run harm only their themselves.

So next time listen to each dialogue... understand why is everybody connecting..... Understand why you aren’t... you will see this yourself. " Question "You" first.

So this movie is also for all of The “Gayatry Devi” in us , to become aware, that’s the first step and slowly each one will also get the direct perceptions. You amazingly you will realise its not something new… you will realise you always “knew” it and then like all “enlightened” beings you will “smile” in joy!!

Unknown inspirational relationships (Soham & Shweta intertwined inspiration to each other)From different teachings, different background, one wearing short clothes, bubbly, the other very quiet and talks only through the calmness of his eyes.

Soham torn between her love for Shweta, perceiving that parents only given in for time being because of daughter… he cannot break her heart.. tell her first I will die, and your parents are involved!!! Letting go… because now that he knows he is interconnected with Shewta..
He lets her “humanely” go…. But gives the “plant” a symbol of ever living “connectedness of ever living love to her… that’s what keeps a little bit of insanity she has when he passes away…

Shewta going through understanding her dreams have vanished forever, soham took away all the answers... she realises he knew he will die, why did he break her heart... why did he take away the dream she had of making her house.... she hunts for those answers in all the places she was with him.... trying to connect to those moments again......thus the song "kitna pyaar"

Shweta- Inspector- Parents
A trained person, a nice person for Shweta to marry her back ground.... I think he also realised the mother killed... but because he was under the depth of Mahendranath & Gayatri... he lets the whole thing go.... Shweta also realises the he knows.... and thats why the scene in red wedding dress. she acts like a wanton.... trying to put the guilt on her mother.... in her rage also on the inspector... saying i should have married you... and then Soham would have been alive and then i would have been alive tooo....In my adamant I killed him.. I should have listened to my parents.........

Shwetambri- Dr Bhattarachary
Clash between our rational and “real” selves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then seeing and perceiving the truth after dropping all "knowledge" and seeing the "truth" symbolism of "Babaji"

Shweta’s realizations is through her relationships…. Through her loss and sufferings and then finding unconditional love …. Understanding the “interconnectedness” that all is one.

Shweta- Babaji
One time: "You have it in you to overcome your fear"
Babaji: Tum Kaise ho Shewta (how are you)
Shewta" Ek dar Sa Laga Rehta hain
( I can sense a fear around me , this in spite of being engaged)

In short " Banaras A Mystic Love Story" talks to Gayatri, Mendranath, Shweta, soham, Gunjan, Dr Bhattarchary, Satyapal (Inspector) in us.... each one is shown truth to their level of perception and each one sees the "truth" they were meant to.....

The "Divine" joke of "Banaras": God must be crazy!!!!!!!!!

I have realised god has been playing a great joke on us through his creation called "Banaras"

I asked myself why did god choose Ashmit, Urmila, Dimple, Raj Babbar, Nasser to play those characters in "Banaras" and lo behold I realise that everybody's reaction has exposed their own conditioning! Most of us could'nt but "hate" Ashmit and with each frame it strengthened our conditioning that we hate him! and so never went beyond understanding that.. its what we do every single moment of our life. We have already notions about our current and so thus live in the past. Not just this we want love to be shown only in a certain way... only way Major stars represent it. In reality How many people really do that? when they really love.. isnt it unspoken. and when females conditioned by movies expect that they get disappointed! So the joke is on us, So we all laughed! We never droppped our conditioning.

Similarly for Urmila who stands for "hot" why did god cast her? Well cause to tell us god doesn't differentiate no matter how much you pout, wear short clothes , sing songs, even if one is admant in ones own "love" even if one is older, more experinced!!

We couldn't have a more contrast example of our perception and how god has made a fool of us by selecting such a contrast... begging us to drop and see the truth. That he is a smart one :) I realise now!!! he likes to play this joke with our perceptions and smiles at our "reactions"

This will be fun... think of all the actors of the movie "Banaras" what we percieve about them and what they play on the screen. We will realise our own lack of understanding and realise you "really" dont know the answers and even if you do know much has been based on what we have been conditioned to think and less on how much have we truly percieved. On that Path and then why not "question" ones own self...

Although many will even fail to understand that in this age our conditioning tell us that " questioning ones own self is called as having "low self confidence" or "having low self esteem" .... so many wont.........some will ........

Very few got "gods" joke that the whole movie is simply a contrast , a duality even in the cast he choose. a 3 deminesional movie ,of our own perception and reality God has tricked us!!! yet again!!! :)))

What is the truth “It is your own Mind”
what distances you from your “real” inner self (god,intelligence) is “ your mind”

“ Your mind” once you start realizing you will understand that all along you have been living in world of “concepts” and each life’s “experiences” goes onto breaking “each of the concept” …………………………….

Similarly “fear is a concept” and what does our mind do..... it “creates gods”

To again Demystify mind and understand it the 21st century way use “computer “ as an analogy to understand our “minds”

At a first level: once starts practicing meditation which is nothing else but being a witness to your own mind… “Understand how it works”.

I am going to keep things very simple ….. I can already see lot of defenses cropping up… but then I again repeat “ watch your mind” begin there… there will be a state where you will laugh once you understand how you have been in state of “sleep, conditioning,..... concepts …..matrix"

It was said of “Leonardo Da Vinci that at the age of 30, he woke up from a deep slumber and realised that the century he was living in was still asleep”

Banaras A Mystic Love Story "Philosophy De coded"

It has been on my mind to "de code" (since the current lingo for unearthening) Banaras: A Mystic Love Story.

It will be simply "My" way of having looked at it.... interpreted it... drawn conclusions.... drawn understanding.... experienced.... or still in the queue to :)

This whole thing will sound as a "disclaimer" but then I realise I do need to clarify, since otherwise people "perceive" it as an "attack" ...or will interpret it out of context to their understanding… so in that sense… when you read here “ first” “drop” your own “knowledge” read it as “ me”.

While unlayering I will keep revisiting my own "thoughts", "experiences" “ examples” “analogies” …..this will be a "process'.

In terms of structure it will be an "evolving one"

So I will start with " satya kya hain.... tumhara man" ( what is the truth.... its your own mind ( perception)

I am hoping the dvd is soon released in India... i would like to quote verbatim from the movie and then put in my own understanding of it. Till then I will work with my memory Bank... so again pardon if I quote out of context...

Layering of Place into the movie called

Relevance of the place to the movie:

Since I have family originating in Banaras I could also see the relevance of the place to the movie and its background:

The Haveli of Urmila / Rajbabr/ Dimple: this is actual Palace in Banaras called Ramgrah Mahal. It is located few kilometers from main Banaras.

Ghats where Soham is found: well I don’t know how many people have read the life story of Kabir, but he was also found on the ghats on Banaras and his origin till date is questionable. If you have read “Autobiography of Yoganad” you will find that first time Yoganada encounters everliving Babji in Banaras…………………..wow amazing isn’t it how the makers have combined these two aspects…..into the movie… Infact it is said that Shirdi Saibaba and others are all avatars of Babaji.. And that he comes in many forms in all generations. If you do a search on google such just with Babaji you will find lot text on him..

Tulsidas Place: where they show that Babji points to Soham towards a window, is actually the place where Tulisdas after being shunned by the Brahmins of Banaras, wrote in his words again the “Ramayan” and what they show in the movie is an actual Ramayan, never shown before. In one of the Banaras film releases they said that when they were shooting the scripture entire unit including all religion Hindus. Muslims, Christians all formed a long queue just to touch and pay their respect.

And ofcourse my most favorite Place Sarnath: Where grown up Soham walks around the Stoop along with Babaji, they brick monument was built by King Ashoka on the place where Buddha gave his first sermon!!! Amazing isn’t it how Babaji in the movie reveals the truth of Vedas and Upanishads in answers to the question raised by science at THAT place…………………. pilgrims circle the stoops paying their respect to Buddha. Also where Soham gets his enlightenment is at Sarnath, the song Kitna pyaar starts off with Shewtambri (Urmila) looking at the statue of Golden Buddha at Sarnath Temple, and I cannot explain to you the feeling that one gets when one visits that place it is simply divine… they have this painting which runs along the both side of the wall about journey of Buddha.. In the enlightenment they show this life size statues of Buddha with his disciples.. well that too exits some distance from the main temple. They also show the stoop evolving into different nature manifestations of our nature into the universe and finally they show the connections which exist and from nothing reaching into a birth of a soul……………….

Lollar Kund: Also the place where Dr Bhattacharya sees Babaji is called Lolar Kund it is said that it is the forehead of Lord Shiva and a place where everybody comes to cure diseases……… they show the process of Dr Bhattacharya walking into it along with other sadhus…. With holistic chants of Mritunjay Jab ( Lord Shiva Chant, which people do to over come death ) & the prayer Tamso ma Jotir Gama, mritu ma amritam gamaya ( it means god take me from darkness into light)

Urmila meets Babaji first time: That is the J Krishnamurthy Ashram and the tree pointed by Soham isthe tree under which Krishnamurthy used to meditate they also have a school there now.

Kabir Ashram: Shetwa takes Dr Bhattacharaya to meet Babaji. need I say anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other places shown: Vishwanath Temple in Banaras Hindu University: In Namo Shivay Song and in that song they also show the Sankat Mochan (Hanuman temple where the recent bomb blasts happened), Vyas temple , Mandkandika Ghat ( sohmas cremeation, oldest and one of highest no of hindu people cremated place)

I must have missed out more places…. Will see the dvd and update this again.

I think many people know the reason for my title!! "Yippey" I finally managed to figure out how to edit posts!! I had just given up... infact I had thought to close down this blog and start new one.... but someone up there heard!! (mostly my mind :))

So everybody: please be prepared for more on my unlayering of "Banaras A Mystic Love Story".

Banaras the movie:
Movie makes you think and think and to put it mildly without giving you all the suspense. It is somewhat like matrix, sixth sense and I think like those movies you understand so many complexes and how it has been woven into the story towards the end and you will want to see again because you realize that so many things which you thought might have been bit boring actually are hidden clues .Infact I think over the years you carry many things with you. infact as I quote Urmila “subtlety” of the movie is an absolutely selling point because it is minus the melodrama which has become the benchmark for Indian cinema. The review where they compare this movie to oscar nominated crash and brokeback mountain have been apt. hats off to the makers to keep that sensitivity. Since I am from Banaras and I have been aware of its history I cannot be amazed that this movie is not a hindu etc movie, but it combines all philosophy including J Krishnamurthy, Buddhism, Hinduism, kabirs etc. and also components of yoganand of whom I am a biggg fan!! I am speechless is what one carries it off. Infact everybody who left the hall were stunned because to put it mildly we have not seen a movie like this and I think maybe that’s why because we have been so used to our conditioned movies that some might want to reject because we don’t want to think and maybe do introspection.

On actorsUrmila: I would like to touch her feet!!!!!!! Awesome is mild word and she looks sooooooooo beautiful!!!!!!!!and so elegant!! In so many scenes she just pulls you . man amazing. I mean I am in wonder why she never wins any awards.

Dimple: guys she looks very elgant and in climax she rocks!!

Raj Babbar;. My second favorite of the movie amazing. I think we all will somewhere connectNasser: WOW!!! Yoganand rocks!!

Ashmit: am pretty surprised looks good actually and I think am bit surprised by him. I think he has potential needs to lock into his passion more.The camera work , cinematography folks is breathtaking I mean Banaras has never looked so beautiful and aptly the other main character of the movie and so richly beatufully done.

I cannot compare this movie to anything because I think none of us have seen anything like it and I guess in that way that could be its unique selling point or it could be its negative point. But I guess anybody who has seen life and understand its complexity. I don’t know if it’s a movie for intellectuals but it is a movie for people who believe , a Believers movie. And guys prepare for your imagination to take over just after you have left the cinema hall……
